Understanding Your CIBIL Report: What Lenders Look For

Key Sections of a CIBIL Report

1. Personal Information

Name, date of birth, PAN, addresses, and employment details. Errors here — especially in PAN — can cause mismatches that delay loan processing. Verify this section carefully.

2. Contact Information

Phone numbers and addresses associated with your accounts. Multiple addresses are normal (previous residences), but ensure no fraudulent entries exist.

3. Employment Information

Income reported by lenders when you applied for credit. This may be outdated and is not given significant weight by most lenders, who prefer current income proof documents.

4. Account Information (the most critical section)

Lists every credit account — home loans, personal loans, credit cards, two-wheeler loans, etc. For each account, lenders look at:

  • Current balance and outstanding amount
  • Payment history (Days Past Due — DPD)
  • Account status (Active, Closed, Written-Off, Settled)
  • Credit limit and utilisation (for credit cards)

5. Enquiry Information

Lists every time a lender has pulled your CIBIL report. Multiple recent enquiries signal financial stress to lenders. Each hard enquiry slightly reduces your score.

Red Flags Lenders Look For

  • Any DPD (Days Past Due) entry — even 30 DPD is noted
  • "Written-Off" or "Settled" accounts — major negative signals
  • High credit card utilisation (above 50–60%)
  • Multiple enquiries in the last 3–6 months
  • Too many unsecured loans running simultaneously
⚠ CIBIL report interpretation is general guidance. Individual lender criteria vary. Contact Unique Consultancy for a personalised credit profile review before applying.
